Here is that pop of colour we were looking for! The new vibrance in Vol. 2 really allows the saturated world come more to life than the previous. Though the first has the more epic story for the most part I do enjoy this film better.

Though I find the central storyline pretty weak. Star Lord's (Chris Pratt) father arc feels as though it has been ripped out of a Farscape episode and not in a good way (because there would be many good ways from that classic TV show). It feels very episodic; an episode that comes just after halfway through the season when they realise that they have neglected the emotional side of their protagonist so they throw in a lost papa storyline. It only feels this way because it almost comes out of nowhere and the affect it has on the characters seems a little thin instead of punching us all in the stomach with feels.

But I loved the visuals of this Vol, especially the gold people lead by Elizabeth Debicki (oh and another Farscape ref, did anyone else see Ben Browder for a hot second next to her???). Not only are they beautiful to look at but their drone technology is just so fantastic, gah please spend more time with these folk!

But there is one beef I have with this franchise and it will go against the grain with most people—GIVE THE MIXTAPE MUSIC A REST!. No, don't take the music out but please stop making copious amounts of references to the fact it is playing and be a little more creative in how to use it.
